Sometimes you just need to get out of the hustle & bustle of the city, especially when you work around people all the time. The Jebel Jais is the highest peak in the UAE & it also has the longest zip line in the world : disclaimer though, i did not go on it!.

 

From the Marina its just over 2 hours to drive, you go from the city to super hella desert to the most beautiful windy road with mountain on either side. The hike is easy, but definitely challenged little, old, unfit me. The trail is razorbacks all the way up from the information centre to the restaurant but I personally found it was slippery in some sections so good shoes are definitely needed. The restaurant (1484 : named for the elevation level), marks the half way point of the lower segment hike. We thought about continuing up to complete the trail but stopped at the restaurant and turned back. The food selection seemed good, but, you definitely pay for the location. I would say to stay the heck away if its not between November - March otherwise you will definitely roast - there was two undercover 'huts' on the way up that you could hide under but the rest was completely exposed to the direct Dubai heat.
