Sippin' my way through Sydney
If there was one way to describe my lifestyle in Sydney it was social butterfly but make it poor uni student style. I worked hard & got good grades, but you could almost always find me at a Sunday sesh with friends #balance.
I was adventurous to a point on where I went, but I definitely had my favourites that I frequented. This post is a list of all those places, so that you can also go!
1. Squires Landing
📍Northern end of the Overseas Passenger Terminal, Circular Quay W, The Rocks
Why?
- Squires has one of the most beautiful views, it is overlooking the Opera house with the harbour bridge just peeking through.
- It is designed for groups with long tables and outdoor seating with heating/cooling for all seasons!
- They have 12 of the James Squire range on tap & you can get a ‘taste’ test size of 4 beers for $20.
Prices: $$$
2. Opera Bar Sydney
📍Opera House, Macquarie St
Why?
- Opera Bar is oh so fancy, perfect for when you are visiting Sydney or are living there & have people visiting you.
- It’s on the lower level of the Opera House & makes the perfect setting for a pre-show bevvie.
- It’s all outside and runs the entire length of the lower concourse level, makes finding your friends there a very interesting challenge.
- There are also a range of different restaurants, one super fancy the others quite casual so you won’t go hungry.
Price: $$$$$
3. Cruise Bar
📍Level 1, Overseas Passenger Terminal, Circular Quay W
Why?
- Downstairs they have a cute outdoor beer garden right on the harbour with Opera House views
- Also good for groups with the long picnic style outdoor tables.
- Upstairs they have a more up-market cocktail lounge
- Would be perfect for a date night though & they had a huge range of choice!
Price: $$$
4. The Glenmore
📍96 Cumberland St, The Rocks
Why?
- If it’s not the most popular rooftop bar in Sydney, it has to be close! Every time someone told me they were visiting I made sure that the first evening involved rooftop cocktails. I suggest that you get there early though, the rooftop gets absolutely packed super quick and then they make you wait on level 1 or 2 for a seat which takes away from the overall vibe.
Price: $$$
5. Argyle
📍18 Argyle St, The Rocks
Why?
- A super fun all-rounder bar
- It has an outdoor area as well as hosting a comedy night, salsa night, live DJ’s and 3 hour cocktail special, 4 days a week. Just a guaranteed good time!
Price: $$ (especially if it’s during happy hour).
6. Cargo Bar
📍King Street Wharf, Darling Harbour
Why?
- A super casual bar with really affordable pricing.
- Perfect if you do any of the boat cruises or go for dinner along the water.
- Friday & Saturday are both really busy and have a cover charge but the rest of the nights it’s definitely just a turn up and find a seat situation.
Price: $$
7. Bungalow 8
📍3 Lime St
Why?
- Super chic and fancy, but really small.
- The outdoor balcony seats are the best and have an amazing sunset view over the water but are near impossible to get on a weekend.
- There’s not loads of seating so I would suggest it for a mid-week drink rather than the weekend.
- They also make a great espresso martini!
Price: $$$
8. Marble Bar
📍Level B1/488 George St
Why?
- Definitely not one for the budget but a really fancy bar to feel part of the ‘elite’ Sydney crowd. - They have live bands playing and everything is marble *go figure ;)*
- Good for an all-out bust the bank kind of a night, just be warned if it’s a busy night, they will make you wait outside so make sure to steal a guy’s jacket to stay toasty.
Price: $$$$
9. Soda Factory
📍16 Wentworth Ave
- A total fave, I was in Sydney for almost a year before a friend took me there. Had the very best time!
- They play predominantly throwback music and it was so much fun to just dance like an idiot with the girls.
- It’s a hidden bar so you have to walk through a hot dog vendor and a coke fridge door to get inside
- It’s 96% dance floor and bar with a few tables along each side. So, take comfy shoes so you can shred the dancefloor
Have the best time and take care of your friends!
